About this course

Greetings everyone!

My name is Kirill Yurov.  I am a teacher, researcher and regionalist working and living in the Russian Far East. The term “regionalist” might be unfamiliar to you. Let me explain. Lately, regionalism as an economic phenomenon has started adding importance among business academics and economic policy makers. Regionalism as opposed to globalisation is about concentration of economic activities such as trade, manufacturing, labour relations, etc. in specific geographic localities (regions).  No doubt that the role of geographic distance is given a thorough consideration in the corporate boardrooms when making sizable investment decisions. And even more now as the rise of protectionism in national markets has made globalisation look less appealing.

With this mind, let me introduce the course which focuses on current business developments in the Russian Far East (Far East Federal District), a macro-region that stretches from Lake Baikal to the Pacific Ocean.  This is the largest, by land mass, federal district in the Russian Federation. The course «Industry Clusters in the Russian Far East: A Strategic Vehicle for Stimulating Economic Cooperation in Asian-Pacific Region» is divided in four modules that are separated in nine lessons total. Each lesson is created with a specific theme in mind. Thus, latest government regulations with respect to creation and administration of special economic regimes in the vast territory of Russian Far East have been brought to your attention. You will learn about development activities in an integrated entertainment resort zone that could potentially rival Las Vegas and Macau. You will also learn about transportation corridors that are being developed to connect ports and trading hubs in the Russian Far East and Asian-Pacific countries.

The time for international business development in the Russian Far East is very exciting and I am very pleased to invite you to explore this course!
