This course describes the cell cycle and the main types of cell death. It describes and shows the different pathways in which apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy can be induced. The course contains a detailed description of kinetics of biological reactions.

About this course

The course describes in details the autophagy, cell cycle characterization and features, basic mechanism of necrosis. This course includes a description of the basic mechanisms of cell death. It shows that identification of the type of cell death is very important when studying the effect of nanomaterials on biological objects (types of cell death differ in their parameters and the effect on cell metabolism, intercellular space, surrounding tissues). The course describes in detail additional changes occurring in the cell and the body as a result of the cell death processes development. It is also shows that the development of apoptosis, necrosis, and autophagy can be induced by the influence (or treatment) of nanomaterials on cellular structures. A significant part of the course is devoted to the description of the cell cycle, because cell condition is very important for the regulation of cellular processes. The course describes the role of caspases, Bcl-2 family proteins and other molecules in cell death regulation. This course describes in details the kinetics of biological reactions, usage of the experimental and theoretical study of kinetics of biochemical reactions, kinetics of enzyme reactions. Protein folding and proteostasis processes are described. A significant part of the course is devoted to the description of the basic principles and mechanisms of protein functionalization. Phosphorylation is described as one of the important ways to regulate the activity of proteins.

The purpose of studying the course is the mastery of the basic information and principles of cell death and basic principles of kinetics of biological reactions for further use by other disciplines of natural science content.
