Russia and Its Regions: Geography, Economy and Geopolitics

This course is made up of 3 core sections. Each section includes two modules.

Section 1. Russia on the Physical Map of the World

Module 1.1. Geographical location and administrative-territorial division of Russia 

Module 1.2. Natural and resource factors of Russia's socio-economic development It presents special features of natural and territorial factors for social and economic development of Russia.

Thus, you will learn about the peculiarities of the geographical position of the largest country in the world, nd out the principles and objectives of administrative-territorial division of Russia, which reects the diversity of the country. Also, we are going to dene the inuence of natural resource factors on the formation of economic specialization of Russian regions, and we’ll explain the spatial distribution of industrial and agricultural centers across Russia.

Section 2. Russia on the Demographical Map of the World

Module 2.1. Population location and geography of Russian cities

Module 2.2. National composition of Russia's population During studying the materials of the modules of the second section, we are going to identify the factors of uneven population distribution across the territory of Russia.

We will speak about the events, which aected the dynamics of Russia’s population over the past one hundred years. Besides, we are going to determine the trends in urbanization processes in Russia and the role of the city in the socio-economic development of the country. As well as, we’ll touch upon the national composition of Russia's population.

Module 3.1. Position of Russia on the economic map of the world

Module 3.2. Economic development strategies of Russia and its regions:features and challenges

The modules of the third section are aimed at determining the place of Russia in the world economy and on the geopolitical map of the world through the considering its position by the major economic indicators. Also, we are going to discuss the main factors and features of regional disparities of Russia, and identify the types of Russian regions by their social and economic development. We’ll highlight the main directions of the modern regional policy of Russia and concepts of social and economic development of Russian regions.
